Omnichannel Payments
This section explains how payments work in Wallee and where to start, whether you sell in a shop, online or at a machine. It also covers which commercial model fits your business and how your customers enter their payment details.
Where do you want to accept payments?
Physical card terminals at your counter, connected to your till or on their own, and SoftPOS on Android.
Webshop checkouts, payment links, subscriptions, shop plugins and API integrations.
Vending and self-service machines, using the same terminal and interface setup as in-store.
You can combine channels as you like: all channels run in the same space, so transactions from every channel appear in one transaction list and one settlement.
What happens during a payment
Wallee gives you one unified interface to process all supported payment methods through every available processor, using one standardized payment process. In practice, every payment follows the same steps:
- Your customer pays, by card, TWINT, invoice or wallet, in your shop, online or at a machine.
- Wallee creates a transaction. Every payment is represented by a transaction, whatever the payment method or channel.
- The transaction is routed to a processor. A processor handles the payment on the acquiring side; a connector links each payment method (such as Visa or TWINT) to the processor that processes it. You configure both before a payment method appears at checkout.
- The transaction moves through a defined set of states, from creation to a final state, for example Authorized or Failed.
- Your system reacts to the state, not to payment-method-specific behaviour. That is what keeps a setup with many payment methods manageable: whatever the payment method — card, TWINT, invoice or wallet — and whichever processor handles it, your integration stays the same.

Which contract model fits you?
There are two ways to accept payments with Wallee:
- wallee payments
- Direct acquiring
One contract, one settlement. wallee payments is our payment facilitator model: you accept the essential payment methods — Visa, Mastercard, PostFinance, TWINT and many more — online and in-store through a single agreement with us, and receive all transactions in one consolidated settlement report.
Activate it through the online onboarding. See Wallee Payments and the Onboarding chapter.
Your own contracts, managed in wallee. With direct acquiring you use external processors or full payment service providers (PSPs), each requiring its own contract and credentials, while you still manage everything through wallee. They replace or supplement wallee's default acquiring channels.
See Direct Acquiring.
The two models are not mutually exclusive: you can integrate additional payment methods alongside Wallee acceptance at any time.
How your customer enters the payment details
How the customer enters their payment details depends on the integration mode you choose. Your developer or your shop plugin usually takes care of this; the overview helps you understand the options:
| Mode | The customer… |
|---|---|
| Payment Page | …enters the payment details on a page hosted by us. |
| iFrame | …enters the payment details in an iframe hosted by us and embedded in your website. |
| Lightbox | …enters the payment details in an overlay on top of your website. |
| Mobile web view | …pays inside a web view in your mobile app. |
| Terminal | …taps or inserts the card at a physical terminal. |
| Payment link | …opens a link or QR code that starts the payment on a hosted page. |
| Charge flow | …is not present: an automated process requests the payment via a message with a payment URL. |
| Direct card processing | …enters the card number in a form provided by you. |
With direct card processing the card data reaches your own systems, so the card schemes require additional security measures from you and your PCI scope grows substantially. All other modes keep the payment data on our PCI DSS Level 1 compliant infrastructure. See Checkout Integrations for the online modes.
